The supplementary systemic support is done according to the fluorine level in the water used by the individual. Always keep in mind, if possible, a study of the amount of fluorine taken by the patient and above all the waters drank. The correlation between the age of the individual and the concentration level of fluorine found in drinkable water must be known. The ADA (American Dental Association), for some time now, has been considering a decrease in the quantity of fluorine used as systemic support, due to the greater advantages obtained by topic fluorine use, the most recent recommendations date back to 1994, where the doses are lower than those found in previous tables also published by the ADA. Recent tables relate fluorine concentration levels in drinkable waters, child's age and dose expressed in mg recommended as a systemic supplement.
In general, fluorine enriched table salt and milk can be found in the market for public use. A lot has been said about supplementary fluorine support during pregnancy in order to increase the concentration levels during teeth formation in intrauterine life. A number of authors recommend fluorine support to pregnant women starting from the 4th. month, but up to date there is no clear evidences that shows that fluorine goes thru the placenta therefore the use of systemic fluorine during pregnancy is not advisable.
